Solenoid Dosing Pumps
The principle of operation of solenoid pumps
Electromagnetic dosing pumps (sometimes referred to as solenoid pumps) belong to the category of diaphragm pump devices, where the moving element is an induction coil with a magnetic piston that moves inside it.
Induction dosing pumps, like other diaphragm pumps, operate on the principle of volume displacement. One of the partitions of the working zone of such a device consists of a flexible membrane. When the membrane bends in the direction of the working zone, the volume decreases, creating increased pressure that pushes the pumped medium through the outlet valve. When the membrane returns to its original position, the volume of the working zone increases, creating a vacuum that leads to the suction of liquid through the inlet valve.
The pump design also includes a third valve for air removal, which is particularly important for the initial filling of the working zone with the medium.
Electromagnets (solenoids) are used as the driving force for the pneumatic system in solenoid pumps. When an electrical current is applied to the solenoid coil, a magnetic field is created, pushing the piston outward, with one end connected to the center of the membrane. As a result, the membrane makes the first stroke. The membrane’s return for the next stroke is facilitated by the force of the return spring, compressed during the previous stroke.
