Operating Principle of Solenoid Pumps

Electromagnetic dosing pumps (sometimes referred to as solenoid pumps) fall into the category of diaphragm pump devices, where the moving element is an induction coil with a magnetic piston that moves within it.

Induction dosing pumps, like other diaphragm pumps, operate on the principle of volume displacement. One of the partitions in the working zone of such a device consists of a flexible membrane. When the membrane bends toward the working zone, the volume decreases, creating increased pressure that pushes the pumped medium through the outlet valve. When the membrane returns to its original position, the volume of the working zone increases, creating a vacuum that draws liquid through the inlet valve.

The pump design also includes a third valve for venting air, which is particularly important for the initial filling of the working zone with the medium.

Electromagnets (solenoids) are used as the drive for the pneumatic system in solenoid pumps. When electric current is supplied to the solenoid coil, a magnetic field is generated that pushes the piston outward, with one end connected to the center of the membrane. As a result, the membrane makes its first stroke. The return of the membrane for the next stroke occurs thanks to the force of the return spring, which is compressed during the previous stroke.
