Nitrogen Generators

The principle of operation of a nitrogen generator involves several stages

Initially, incoming air is compressed to the required pressure levels (typically no less than 6 atmospheres) and pre-cleaned. Before entering the gas separator, the airflow passes through a filter, which removes water and oil. The nitrogen generator consists of a modular system with aluminum columns containing carbon molecular sieves.

In the initial separation stage, the molecular sieves in the first module retain carbon dioxide and oxygen, while nitrogen is directed into the reservoir. The column is then cleaned, and adsorption occurs in the second module to ensure the continuity of the process.

All operational parameters are displayed on the unit’s display via a gas analyzer, providing the operator with complete control over the production of inert gas, its pressure, and delivery.

A nitrogen generator, available for various enterprises and laboratories, offers significant advantages: reducing costs for technological processes by eliminating the need to purchase compressed gas. However, for cost savings, it is important that the equipment operates in the required mode: producing a sufficient quantity of substance of a certain purity, without requiring complex connection or maintenance, and being safe and durable.

The operational process of a device meeting these criteria is described as follows:

  1. During the first 8–10 minutes after activation, the receiver and adsorbers are purified from foreign substances.
  2. Sensors monitoring the concentration of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the finished product are started and prepared (not exceeding 0.001% according to GOST).
  3. After reaching the required purity, the nitrogen generator delivers the substance to the consumer line (for example, to power a chromatographic setup).

Further operation of the device is aimed at maintaining stable pressure when delivering purified nitrogen to the consumer channel, performing additional gas separation, and controlling the oxygen concentration.

How to Choose a Nitrogen Generator

When choosing a nitrogen generator, the consumer considers its power, gas purification level, maximum productivity, and other parameters such as:

  • Maximum economic efficiency, where high purification is achieved with low energy consumption, ensuring low gas cost.
  • A well-thought-out operational process ensuring continuous delivery of inert substance for most technological cycles, minimizing downtime, and maintaining high-quality gas separation.
  • Compatibility with any source of compressed air to increase device productivity and reduce maintenance costs.
  • Quick and easy commissioning, which is an important factor in choosing suitable equipment.
