Complexes for the preparation of saline solution

Raw material for producing chlorine, alkali, sodium hypochlorite, and oxidant solutions in electrolysis plants is a solution of sodium chloride (salt). Electrolysers are equipped with a special brine preparation unit. Salt solution preparation complexes may include raw material purification equipment, which helps reduce the cost of the final reagent.

The price of raw material is determinant in the cost price of the reagent obtained by the electrolysis method. The contribution of sodium chloride to the cost price of the target product ranges from 50-70%.

The most common practice at present is to use “EXTRA” quality salt or salt “for regenerating ion exchange filters” to prepare brine (working salt solution). Pure salt is dissolved in tap or softened water, and the solution for electrolyzer operation is ready.

The limitation for using technical and rock salt as raw materials for electrolysis is contamination of reactor installations with deposits of hardness salts, iron, and mechanical impurities.

Using “EXTRA” salt has its advantages:

It is the simplest method in terms of hardware design and maintenance. The equipment is compact. No additional reagents are required. With examples of brine preparation complexes using “EXTRA” salt, you can visit the GALLERY on our website.

However, the cost of pure salt is 10-15 thousand rubles per ton depending on the region. This reduces the economic effect of implementing electrolysis equipment. At the same time, the cost of technical grade salt is half as much, ranging from 3.5 to 5 thousand rubles per ton.

Despite the fact that when using “EXTRA” salt as raw material, the price of electrolytic active chlorine still does not exceed the cost of commercial liquid chlorine, and even more so the cost of commercial grade hydrochloric acid, in many cases, it is advisable to consider ways to reduce costs by using lower quality salt.

To use technical grade salt as raw material for electrolysis plants, it is necessary to provide for the purification of the salt solution. The quality of the brine should meet certain requirements.

LLC “LET” develops and supplies complexes for the preparation and purification of brine depending on the type of raw materials and the electrolyzer used. Below are schematic diagrams of such complexes. For recommendations on brine preparation equipment, we invite you to contact our specialists by any convenient means for you. Call ☎ (495) 232 00 66.
